Sailpast 2012 took place on Saturday, June 2. Sailpast is the one day that all of our members should be out, dressed and ready to sail.
Unfortunately the weather did not co-operate. After a couple of wet, windy days the weather for Saturday did not look much better. As it turned out, the rain held off, but there were unpleasant lumpy seas just outside the breakwall. The results from the wind, waves and a shallow area made for rough, unpleasant conditions. Sailing through this is one thing but to take guests out is another. We do not need to have our guests think ill of us. It was decided that Commodore Piersig and Vice Commodore Waddell would salute the fleet from Dragon Lady.
Our fleet was blessed by Rev. Canon Philip Hobson who volunteers at Toronto’s Mission to Seafarers. A memorial service was held in remembrance for those National members who passed away during the last year.
Without being able to take to the water for Sailpast our members retired to their boats with their guests to await the Commodore’s salute via Dragon Lady.
Later, a reception was held in the dining room where all members and guests were able to meet our Flag Officers.
Those wise members who planned ahead and reserve for dinner were able to enjoy a lovely evening.
Thanks to the great organization and planning for Sailpast by Cathy Terry and a good time was had by all.
