Diesel Engine Operation and Care Seminar
Adult Learn to Sail, General Education
During four consecutive Thursday night sessions in February James Khoodu, well-known local diesel expert, will conduct a Diesel Engine Operation and Care seminar series at National Yacht Club.
With a specialized exhibit engine on site to assure hands-on learning and a focus on practical application, each session will cover an engine system. The course is designed to provide a general level of ‘do-it-yourself’ skill and knowledge enabling diesel engine owners to perform their own routine maintenance.
Seminar Series Topics:
- Week 1 – Fuel: Keeping it clean and flowing. Bleeding injectors. Maximizing fuel economy.
- Week 2 – Oil: What to buy. How to keep it clean. When and how to change and recycle it yourself.
- Week 3 – Batteries: Types. Monitoring. Maintaining. Prolonging their life cycle.
- Week 4 – Troubleshooting: pumps, impellers, belts. Plus, preparing for Spring commissioning.
In addition to the four Thursday sessions there will be a special 3-hour September session (date TBD) focusing on winterizing and systems decommissioning and a copy of the Peter Crompton best-seller Troubleshooting Marine Diesels from The International Marine Sailboat Library included in the course registration fee.
