The 2011 IRC North American Championship planning committee is pleased to announce the release of the Notice of Race for 2011 IRC North American Championship Regatta that will take place August 11-14, 2011 at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto.
This is the first time this prestigious event will be held outside of the United States and has the dual sanctioning of the Canadian Yachting Association and US-IRC. Last year, the event was held at the New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island and the year prior to that, in San Francisco at the St. Francis Yacht Club.
Over the past few years, Lake Ontario has celebrated extraordinary growth in the IRC fleet, bringing the total to over 70 active IRC boats with over 50 of those in Canadian ports. Our regional fleet unites boats from both the Canadian and US sides of Lake Ontario and there is a growing contingent of IRC boats based in Rochester, New York and spread all along the US shore of Lake Ontario. With the addition of a significant number of out-of-region boats joining us, and continued growth around the lake, we expect to see the 2011 North American Championship fleet swell to well over 70 boats.
We look forward to hosting this event and planning for the regatta is well underway to ensure we deliver a top-notch regatta, both on and off the water. The regatta is already shaping up to feature a diverse and challenging mix of boats, a notable race management team, exceptional sailing on the waters of Lake Ontario, spirited daily social gatherings as well as the hospitality and unique setting of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.
This is an event that sailors will not want to miss as it promises to offer memorable competition and a good time, making it the highlight of the 2011 sailing season.
