Lake Ontario IRC update: Youngstown, LYRA, Freeman Cup
July 23rd, 2012 @ 04:09 PM EST by admin
We are now heading into the busiest time of the racing season on Lake Ontario. Beginning this coming weekend we have four major IRC events in the next four weekends with something for everyone. We hope many of you are considering joining us at some or all of these outstanding events.
Youngstown Level Regatta
The Youngstown Level Regatta is special this year for IRC competitors as it marks the first time the IRC Great Lakes Championship is being hosted by IRC Lake Ontario. The event takes place on July 28/29 weekend and we expect to have a substantial IRC entry and divide the fleet into five divisions for the best racing possible. Level's is always a great event and this years IRC championship will make it just that much better. If you have been hesitating to register please go to and get your entry in. We anticipate having our own circle and dividing the fleet up in a format similar to last months very successful RCYC Open regatta which also featured five closely rated IRC divisions.
LYRA and Freeman Cup
LYRA this year is being hosted by the Oswego Yacht Club with IRC course racing to take place on the August 4/5 weekend. Prior to the course racing there is the Freeman Cup distance race that will start and finish in Oswego and various feeder races to get you to Oswego. IRC registrations are progressing and we expect to be able to divide the IRC fleet into two divisions. If you want to race in a beautiful setting in a part of the lake you seldom visit this is your opportunity. The Freeman Cup and LYRA course racing are part of our IRC Boat of the Year program this year so we encourage everyone to consider participating. Go to for more information.
