from Stephen Jones, Racing Committee Chair & Bob Magtanong, VC Fleet
We are reorganising the National’s mid-week racing for 2011. The biggest change is that we are moving the women’s, beginner skipper and double-handed divisions from Monday to Thursday nights. Monday night racers have historically been short-changed in the number of races they got in the spring and summer series, because of holiday Mondays. With the move to Thursday nights, these racers will get a full eight races in per series, just like Tuesday and Wednesday night racing.
Joining the women, beginner skippers and doublehanders on Thursday nights will be the club’s newest one-design fleet, the J-22s. This fleet has more than doubled in size since 2010, and it will no doubt enjoy competitive racing this season. Speaking of competitive racers, the 2.4 mRs will also be racing on Thursday night. And finally, we would like to revive dinghy racing, also to be held on Thursday nights. Contact Jason Hearst (email@example.com) for information on how to participate in club 420s. We also invite any Laser, Mega-Byte or other dinghy owner to come out on Thursday nights.
To help facilitate the changes to weeknight racing, the Match Racing program has graciously agreed to move their activities from Thursday to Monday night. Contact Chris Clarke (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you would like to get involved with this fast-paced racing discipline.
The initial reaction to the changes we are implementing for 2011 has been very positive, with many members commenting that Thursday night racing is more convenient. If your crew is affected, please contact them in the pre-season so that they can adjust their schedules.
Hoping to see you out on the race course this coming season,
