The NYC Corinthian Fund is now open for applications from individual sailors seeking financial support for their 2014 programs.
The Fund’s objective is to assist with developing the sailing capabilities of high potential individuals to represent NYC at local, national or international venues. Specifically, the Fund looks to identify, assist and promote talented amateur sailors whose development in the sport or ability to attend training programs or regattas would be otherwise financially difficult or unachievable.
Here are some considerations if you are interested in applying:
- You must be NYC member in good standing for two years at time of application.
- You must be an ISAF Group 1 ranked sailor – Applicants over age 18 must be ISAF registered showing NYC as home yacht club and provide their ISAF Classification Code. Applicants under age 18 will be treated as Group 1 sailors.
- If you are targeting national high performance events, you have to first meet the new Sail Canada and ISAF Youth requirements which includes citizenship.
- Youth whose funding request is to enter regatta(s) must have signed Sail Canada’s/OSA’s Youth Code of Conduct.
Funding will be available for training or camps if the program is OSA or Sail Canada sanctioned.
As the Corinthian Fund is for development of amateur sailors, consideration cannot be provided for ISAF Category/Class 3 competitors, individuals who have raced in Olympic or events classified as Group 3 events per ISAF Reg. 22.2.3 or, competitors whose goals, activities or aspirations could be interpreted to be that of a professional racing sailor.
Because of limited funds, grants are not available at this time for equipment such as sails or boats or for sponsorship. While grants are not available to teams, team members may apply individually.
The Corinthian Fund Committee is interested in hearing from applicants who have a well thought out long term plan with a view to the upcoming and future sailing seasons. Youth will receive the necessary assistance to ease them through the application process.
Applications must be received no later than April 15th for consideration by the Committee.
