Richard Reid on Zingara has had a busy winter. In January, the Zingara team finished third in the prestigious Key West Race Week and followed that in February by coming out on top of a 14 boat Melges 24 fleet (placing first in five of the 10 races) to win the St. Pete’s NOOD. Fantastic results. Congratulations to the Zingara team.
Also in February, the most recent National member to dip his toe in the international regatta scene, Russell Hopper participated in a tough 37 boat Melges 20 fleet in Miami. By all accounts it was a good learning experience.
Take a look at the pictures. Hopefully they inspire a few more people to join us in the sunny south next winter – pretty good way to get away in the winter. Both Zingara and Endorphin are registered for the Melges Rocks regatta in Miami mid-March. We will provide updates as they happen.
In the Ocean racing category, our very own Jonathan Bamberger is racing his J145 Spitfire in the Caribbean 600 which takes place February 23 through the 27.
The upcoming, Charleston Race Week is one of the top regattas on the US sailing schedule.
National Yacht Club has four boats participating in the 2015 edition taking place April 16 through 19.
Melges 20 (also the US National Championship):
• Russell Hopper – Endorphin
• Richard Reid – Zingara
• Dan Berezin – Surprise
• Scott Blair – Corsair (Esse 850)
The Melges 20 fleet is expected to have more than 40 boats, and the Melges 24 will not be far behind in terms of numbers. The PHRF fleet has historically drawn 30+ boats in four classes. These are top notch fleets with some of the best sailors in the world participating, and we look forward to reporting on the results once in.
Hopefully we have not missed anyone. Please let us know so we can keep abreast of all the National members representing us on the international stage.
