This presentation is the story of Sojourn – the boat, Rob – the sailor, and Mary – the reluctant boater. In 2009-10, when most people were digging out of the global financial crisis, Rob and Mary sold their condo, put everything into storage and took Sojourn (a 1981 CS36T) from Lake Ontario to the Exumas in the Bahamas.
“What make that so interesting?” you may ask. Thousands of boaters make the trek south every year, and many of them go further than the Bahamas.
What makes this so interesting is Mary did not want to go! And now – she has agreed to go again!
This is a presentation of what we did – what worked and what didn’t – and how we plan to do it all again, starting in the fall of 2015. The fact that Rob gets to go sailing in the Bahamas again is because he learned how to Live His Dream on Her Terms.
Who should attend? – Sailors, boaters, people who dream of sailing south and their reluctant partners. Rob and Mary share their stories, images of the journey, trip planning, and just enough technical information to assure even the most reluctant boater that it can be done in a very civilized way.
