WOW Regatta 2012

Women on the Water (WOW) held its Second Annual women’s only regatta at the Island Yacht Club this past June 23rd. The weather, the lake, the race course, the whole day couldn’t have been more perfect.

WOW was founded in 2008 by Lori Mason of The Store, Mason’s Chandlery as organization designed to promote women in boating. The regatta encourages more women to try racing and, of course, have some fun.

There were ten boats, doubling from last year, with four boats from the NYC. We saw a mix of seasoned racers and chilled out cruisers. Thirty women signed up with or without a boat and everyone got a ride.

Thanks to the Race Committee Volunteers from LSYC, MCC, PCYC we got in three excellent races just off Hanlan’s Point. Afterwards, IYC hosted a fabulous BBQ where everyone got a prize from donors like Mason’s Chandlery, Robertson & Robertson Yacht Insurance, Gill and North Lakes Yachting.

Defiant, representing The National Yacht Club secured second place again! ‘Uncorked’ better watch out next year!

First, second, and third places

If you’d like to be involved in this regatta next year – as crew or a boat owner – email Katrina Lewis katrina@iyc.ca and ask to be added to the mailing list.
