I would like to extend my thanks to the National Yacht Club for allowing me to host the “Zumbathon” for the Adopt a Family project 2013 from Dr Roz’s Healing Place, in the Chart Room free of charge in December.
The event was a huge success! We got incredible feedback! Burning off calories, having fun, all to support a worthwhile cause! We sold 55 tickets, making it a SOLD OUT EVENT! We also sold over $300 in raffle tickets.
A huge thank you to Commodore Denys Jones, and a few members who were unable to take part in it but made donations by cash or by purchasing raffle tickets. Even though we did not achieve as much participation as I was hoping from the members, all-in-all, we raised $1,200, which paid for a Brand New Dryer, a pair of prescription glasses for one of the teenagers and a food gift certificate for $100.
As many of you know I have been involved with Dr Roz’s Healing Place (alias Emily Stowe Shelter) for the last 25 years. This year I received the Jack Layton award from Dr Roz’s Healing Place, an experience that was quite humbling.
The Adopt a Family project this year consisted of a mom and four children. We were able to get over 98% of their wish list, another incredible experience. I hope many more NYC members will take part in our next Zumbathon. They can get involved by sponsoring some of the items on the wish list for next year’s Adopt a Family project.
