



At the NYC, we run many varied programs for novice sailors with 'little to zero' experience right through to advanced levels for people with varying degrees of knowledge and experience. Some of our programs are also available to non-members of the club. Whatever your experience, we have programs tailored specifically for your needs. Courses and programs also vary in content, from on- the-water, to classroom, from practical to theoretical.
LEARN TO SAIL
Introduction to Keelboat SailingThis 7-week program provides participants with a basic understanding of keelboat sailing, both from a classroom setting as well as on-the-water experiences that can be used throughout the sailing season. Topics covered include boat part, wind, weather, basic on-water safety and equipment (clothing, etc.) sailing terminology, knots rules, cruising and some in depth racing strategies. This is a very popular course and space is strictly limited, so please be sure to register early.

CYA Basic Cruising
"The objective of the CYA Basic Cruising Standard is for you, on completion, to be able to cruise safely by day in local waters, in moderate wind and sea conditions, as skipper or crew of a 20-30 foot sloop-rigged keelboat"

Cruise and Learn
Live aboard and cruise with a CYA instructor for three days on a Catalina 470. This is a live-aboard sailing skill development course and is designed as a non-certificate program. It is designed as a stepping-stone between CYA Basic Cruising Standard and CYA Intermediate Cruising Standard. CYA Basic Cruising is prerequisite

Adult Dinghy Learn to Sail

Whitesail
Over four weeks, two nights a week, learn to sail a small responsive boat. The CYA White Sail program consists of three levels that take you though balance, propulsion, and direction of a dinghy sail boat. National Yacht Club is proud to offer this program in our fleet of 420s, responsive and easy to sail instructional sailboats. There is no other way to learn to sail that is more in tune with the wind. Whether you're a beginner or want to brush up on skills from the past this course will be both challenging and rewarding.

Bronze Sail
Over four weeks, two nights a week, improve your dinghy sailing and seamanship. The CYA Bronze Sail program consists of two levels that include training in advanced boat handling, sail theory, seamanship, and spinnaker work. National Yacht Club 's fleet of new 420s are the ideal training vessels to achieve these advanced dinghy sailing standards. This program is the natural follow-up to the CYA White Sail standards and is an excellent means of developing mastery of dinghy sailing in an enjoyable setting.

Testing the Waters
Open to Non-Members
For the person who wants to try out a day on the water this course puts you and 3 other aspiring sailors in a keelboat with our CYA certified instructor and lets you try your hand at every aspect of sailing a keelboat on Lake Ontario. The course is offered as a 4-hour sail, with either lunch or dinner at the NYC's restaurant included.
