Pleasure Craft Operator Card
Open to Non-Members

If you operate a pleasure craft with a motor for recreational purposes, on Canadian waters, the Competency Of Operators Pleasure Craft Regulations require you to carry proof of competency at all times. All operators of any vessel with an engine, regardless of size, must carry a Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
This one evening course involves in class instruction followed by a written test. The course is instructed by an accredited certified S.P.A.R.K. Start instructor with the course set out by the Canadian Yachting Association.

Toronto Power Vessel Operators Permit (Harbour Licence)

The Practices and Procedures of the Toronto Port Authority state, that a person operating a power driven vessel in the waters of the Port and Harbour of Toronto, must be in possession of valid marine certification recognized by Transport Canada and the Toronto Port Authority.
The Toronto Port Authority Operators Permit for Power Driven Vessels is a one evening course involving an on-the-water test followed by in-class instruction and a written test. The National Yacht Club provides a 16-foot powerboat for the use of students during their on-the-water examination. This course can also be taken in conjunction with the Pleasure Craft Operator Card course.

Restricted Radio Operators Certificate – Maritime (VHF) and Digital Selective Calling (DSC) Endorsement

The Restricted Radio Operators Certificate course is offered over three evenings, with instruction the first two nights and a written exam on the third. The registration fee includes the textbook, student’s CD, and DSC simulator. This certificate is a federal government requirement to operate any marine VHF, HF, or SSB radio.
Participants who already have their Restricted Radio Operators Certificate and would like to add the Digital Selective Calling endorsement may register for the two-night DSC endorsement course. This includes instruction the first evening and a test on the second. The registration fee includes the textbook and DSC simulator. DSC participants are welcome to attend the first night of the full course as a refresher.
Both courses are instructed by the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron.
