RACING AND CRUISING CREW BANK
Don't own a boat, but still want to feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your face? Join the more than 70 friendly souls in the NYC Crew Bank and enjoy a sail on one of many boats that welcome crew aboard. Serious racers, casual cruisers, complete novices: all are welcome to join the Crew Bank, which is included in the cost of membership and runs five nights a week from May to October. Sailboats of all shapes and sizes participate, so you have the chance to find the boat and crew that’s right for you.
Racing Crew Bank
National Yacht Club has the highly popular Crew Bank for those members who want to race or cruise - with or without experience.
Lists of 'crew looking for boat' and 'boat looking for crew' are posted outside the club on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday race nights and for occasional regattas. It's manned by a club member who will help place you on the right boat to match your skill level. It's an excellent and easy way to gain experience or find a regular crew.
In order to participate in Crew Bank, you must be a member, arrive with non-marking soled shoes no later than 5:30 PM. The Crew Bank moderator normally starts around 5:20 in front of ODD and runs the bank until Grand National fires its gun at 5:50. All boats leave the dock no later than 6 PM sharp. Also recommended are sailing gloves and your own PFD (personal flotation device).
Cruising Crew Bank
Cruises are organized on Monday and Thursday nights. You must be a member to sign up for cruises, but you can invite guests for Thursday night outings.
We could not do this without our generous volunteer skippers. If you are interested in volunteering your boat for cruising, please contact Tom Stephens at 416-391-1635. You only need to sign up for a week at a time, not the whole season.
