With a history steeped in competitive racing on Lake Ontario, National Yacht Club offers a comprehensive, 3 night midweek racing program for all skill levels. Beginners are welcome as are white sail racers and spinnaker racers. One design racing is offered as well as handicap racing.

There are currently three nights of racing:
Mondays are beginner skippers, double-handed and women's races
Tuesday is whitesail racing plus two spinnaker fleets – Sharks and Quarter Ton.
Wednesday is one-design, PHRF and levels spinnaker racing
New Members and Crew are encouraged to find places on mid-weeking racing boats. With the National Yacht Club organized Crew Bank system you learn to race and/or sharpen your sailing skills. The Crew Bank system helps non boat owners to participate in mid-week races and this win/win helps skippers (boat owners) to build teams that last from season to season.
Junior and youth sailors form their own fleets, and participate in organized regattas around the Lake.
2010 MIDWEEK RACING NEWS
The new season of Midweek Racing is fast approaching and for those of you who plan on participating this year, the following will provide you with the information you need prior to your first race.
Registration:
You have been registered for the same evenings that you raced in 2009. If you have had a change to your racing program, whether it be an increase in the number of nights you plan to race, changing to a different night, or decreasing the number of nights you plan to race, please forward this information to Anne at sma@sympatico.ca.
PHRF Certificates:
Your PHRF certificate will be renewed after April 20. If you are no longer racing your boat, you will need to notify the Sailing Office so that you will not be billed for the certificate. A renewal fee of $20 will be billed to your account. PHRF-Lake Ontario no longer mails out renewal certificates but instead they are available for printing from the PHRF Lake Ontario website, www.phrf-lo.org. If you have purchased new sails you will need to have them measured. Please contact Bent Voetmann, our club handicapper, at bent_v@yahoo.com to make arrangements to have your sails measured.
Waivers:
As in previous years, your waiver will be available for signature at Launch, in a binder located at the Officer of the Day (OOD) station. Your waiver must be signed prior to your first race.
Division Splits:
Division splits and the starting order for each night will be posted prior to the Practice Starts on the Official Notice Board which is located in the west hallway. The Divisions splits are reviewed by our Club Handicapper prior to posting.
New Racers:
Welcome to Midweek Racing! Our program offers three nights of racing; Mondays (Womens, Doubler Handers, Beginners and White Sail), Tuesdays (Sharks, Quarter Tons, and White Sail) and Wednesdays (Spinnaker). You are welcome to race on one, two or all three nights. You will need a PHRF Certificate which provides a handicap rating for your boat. Please contact Anne Sanderson at sma@sympatico.ca at your earliest convenience to register your boat and to obtain a PHRF Certificate.
Best wishes for an enjoyable racing season!
Anne Sanderson
Sailing Office Chairperson
